Pick a niche you actually know

Generic content competes at the bottom of the market. Rates at the top of the published range go to writers with demonstrable expertise in a field such as B2B software, finance or health.
Set up the tool stack

A generator for drafts, a grammar/style checker, and optionally an SEO brief tool. Free tiers exist for some of these, so the stack can start near zero.
Build 3-5 samples

Write finished pieces in your niche before pitching. Marketplace buyers and direct clients both screen on portfolio, and you cannot show client work you do not have yet.
List on a marketplace and pitch directly
